We lost another chicken this summer so we thought since the weather's eventually going to get cooler we'd get a new batch of chicks from Callahan's so they'll be ready for spring. J always tells the girls not to name them (Bubbles, Tulip, Moxie), but they always do.
We've got 2 golden laced wynandottes, 2 white brahmas(furry feet) and 2 rhode island reds. Our barred plymouth rock hasn't been too nice to the chicks so she got booted out of the tiki coop to nest in the empty dog kennel. They grow fast...they've already started to grow their wings!

Summers End
Tuesday, August 12, 2008

With the girls going back to school next week I feel a little bittersweet about summer ending.
In homage to Julia Margaret Cameron's photos of her daughters and Alice Liddell.
From Lewis Carroll's epilogue to the Looking Glass:
"......In a Wonderland they lie,
Dreaming as the days go by,
Dreaming as the summers die:
Ever drifting down the stream --
Lingering in the golden gleam --
Life what is it but a dream?"
