"Mad Men" Engagement Shoot in Austin!

Tuesday, September 29, 2009

I was super excited when this couple asked about doing a "Mad Men" style shoot for their Engagement session in Austin.
I pulled out my Rollei and vintage sunglasses...they showed up dressed to a T with an incredible dress/suit and perfect hair and makeup!
They looked like old Hollywood film stars in front of the Paramount....mysterious James Bond-ish by the safe in the bottom of the AMOA, suburban mid century homemakers at the Kirk Gallery and swinging singles with their martini's at Lamberts.
(the perfect location since they went their on their first date!)
We'll have just as much fun at their wedding in a few weeks at Three Points Ranch!

Kristen and Nigel/South Austin Engagement

Thursday, September 24, 2009

A couples favorite places to hang out are a part of their portrait of who they are.
These two met at work and live in South Austin.

Their hangouts:
Peter Pan Golf on Riverside Drive, Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar, and Curra's on Oltforf.
Their wedding in November at Star Hill Ranch will be just as laid back and fun!

Mare and James New York Wedding

10 things we LOVED about shooting this NYC wedding this summer:

number one
- it was in New York City! We lived there for 14 years and hadn't been back in two, so it's always like going home.
two-First look! So nice to see each other before the wedding! We were able to stroll down Wall Street to Battery Gardens and get some great candids a long the way.
three-Taxis! We couldn't walk all the way so luckily they're everywhere!
four - Public art- so wonderful to be able to run into a Mark Di Suvero and the Red Cube by Noguchi and use as backdrops!
five - Balloons- the groom created a unique tradition where he handed out a balloon to each member of the wedding party- then afterwards they all released them together!
six - Pink ukelele! How cute was this family band that played the cocktail hour with her electric pink ukelele, her Dad on stand up bass and her brother on keyboards.
seven- Great toasts- His brother in law,Best Man and their families all rose to the occasion and delivered the funniest toasts!
eight - No cake cutting- just lots of yummy desserts and more time for salsa dancing!
nine - Creating new traditions- since they didn't have a car to decorate- their friends made them "Just married" sashes with babies and beer ( pabst blue ribbon no less!)
ten -The views - from Battery Gardens are incredible since it's in Battery Park and you can see the ferries and the Statue of Liberty.

Plus one more- the sweet family friend willing to run out for deodorant, nail polish and toothpaste!

and relaxing the day after with old friends and drinks by the model boat pond in Central Park in the cool fall weather, seeing studios, meeting newborns and eating Indian in Jackson Heights!

Congrats Mare & James!
