Heather & Russell's Lemon Lime Bake Sale Wedding

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

This was a really fun DIY wedding at the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin!

Since the  color theme was inspired by the colors of lemons and limes - the brides shoes chose green silk shoes to wear with her hand dyed yellow petticoat. The grooms classic white tux was inspired by old old photograph from his parent's wedding and the bride wore beautifully aromatic gardenia in her hair.
Friends & family bought flowers were bought in bulk and arranged  them  the day before the wedding. Her brides sister created the spectacular  arrangements in vases filled with lemons and limes and made all the bouquets and boutonnieres.

This summer has been sweltering so to keep things cool there were lots of drinks - they set up a self serve lemonade stand with old timey paper straws, bottles of Mexican cokes, Topo Chico , Dublin Dr. Peppers  piled into galvanized tubs alongside iced down jelly jars that were filled with limes and water.

The ""sign in book" was a framed  "Robots in Love" print from Etsy vendor Mengsel- the beautiful piece of artwork now hangs in their home.
Since the bride collects of vintage handerchiefs - she used them as  gifts for her her  guests  as a keepsake. They also had paper parasols and fans to keep their guest cool.

And instead of a traditional wedding cake- the bride was inspired by  a country bake sale- she had their favorite local cupcake bakery made six different cakes and a friend designed and decorated the table. Hand stamped labels marked cakes named the James Brown, Marilyn Monroe, Black and Tan & Strawberry Love.

The groom’s oldest friend performed the ceremony where they recited handwritten vows as their best friends served as MOH & BM-  Her sister did a tearful reading, and her six year old nephew introduced them for their first dance  as husband and wife.

If that wasn't enough -they danced all night to the awesome band " White Ghost Shivers" and exited to the theme from Indian Jones hummed on  Kazoos - a turquoise vintage car  as a surprise for my groom awaited them!
