Jonathan & Cameron/Grapetown Texas

Thursday, May 6, 2010

These 2 architects  met while working at Lake Flato in San Antonio.

They choose their location from a 60 mile loop that they like to cycle on the weekends  through Fredericksburg and the Texas Hill Country that passes by the old ghost town of Grapetown Texas.

Originally a town it became a bypass then converged into an old german gun club  & shooting range with a  dance hall.
from the website:

"In 1887 a singing club and a shooting club merged (allowing members to sing while shooting) and as if that wasn't enough, Grapetown then started the first annual Gillespie County Schuetzenfest (shooting festival). The Handbook of Texas allows that during this festival, 140 kegs of beer were consumed in four days - but gives no information on the accuracy of the marksmen.

The couple designed  a clever poster for their invitation that folded out with information about the history of Grapetown, a map, information about accommodations, their wedding website, and what attire to wear.

They got ready and had their first look under the blooming trumpet vine at the Hoffman House in Fredericksburg- both the bride and groom wore  cowboy boots . They handmade the Maypole with orange and blue flags stapled to ribbon to have their ceremony under.
The both bride and groom   had their  parents walk her down the aisle and only 2 attendants.

Everything was local from the Texas Beer to the Hill Country Wine-with a tex mex brunch of brisket tacos, quesadillas. For entertainment they had bocce and horse shoes  as well as swing dancing to the band "Miss Leslie and her Juke Jointers" ( who brought along her beautiful newborn baby).

A galvanized steel cupcake stand with "Day of the Dead" topper- as well as a modern wooden bride and groom and photos of themselves as children served as decorations.

The guest book was a framed poster for guests to sign in on the matt.
All of the signs kept with their design in  ROSEWOOD font and blue/ orange colors
The favors were handmade soap- a hobby that Cameron the bride enjoys
She labeled them "Smithdish"- a combination of their last names Smith and Standish and called it their
"Cedar Fever" a mix of olive oil, canola oil, safflower oil, coconut oil , juniper oil, lavender oil, sage oil, hill country juniper berries and needles . ( which smelled amazing).
