Martha & Jimmy's NYC/NOLA/New Braunfels Backyard Wedding!

Monday, August 25, 2014

Favorite Kids reaction ever!

They also exited to this cool VW THING  set up by a family friend!

Ever since the Rockwood  family moved from  New Orleans to  New Braunfels , the Bride's  Mother told her she would have a backyard wedding!  Martha  said " I remember protesting as I got older, saying I would never get married in my own backyard and that I much preferred to marry in NOLA like my older sister did. I guess I didn't realize its incredible potential at the time! My Mom comes from a family of seven girls, all of whom were either married or celebrated their reception at my grandparent's home in New Orleans. Granddolly (my grandmother) could throw an incredible party in a moments notice. My parents were married in six weeks and in that time she added an entire wing to their house on Audubon Place in preparation for the wedding. Jimmy and I had just over four months to plan our wedding and my Mom blew it out of the water! Clearly, the party planning genes were passed down."

The dress has an amazing history as well- it was originally the Brides Mothers dress, but it has also been worn by 2 Aunts , 3 cousins and her sister.  In January a younger cousin will wear it for hers making it down the aisle 9 times!  Martha had her dress redesigned by  Patti Flowers in Dallas. It was strapless with scraps of lace left over from the alteration. Patti stitched the scraps together to create the straps, neckline and peplum waist.

It was also both of their Mothers who set them up  blind date while Martha was living in NYC! They  were friends growing up together in Buras, LA. (Martha's mother was in his Jimmy's Mothers wedding!) After a 2 year of long distance dating, the couple  moved back to Texas together and on a visit back to the Apple- Jimmy proposed on their  favorite Hudson River Pier.

Martha said " We  both come from families that care a lot about tradition and the celebration of good friends and the gift of life. I'd like to think both were reflected nicely at our wedding. "
