Thurmans Mansion/Mexican Themed Wedding
Saturday, July 10, 2010
This is part two of Roxana and John's DIY Mexican themed wedding at Thurmans Mansion.
The groom said the papel-picado theme was a natural fit given their Texas roots, tissue paper flowers lined the railings and tables, a custom card box in festive colors that looked like a wedding cake, grosgrain ribbons tied to the cedar arbor with fleur de lis topped markers.
Mexican loteria cards were used as escort cards and clipped to a red ribbon hanging on an old wooden door with matching cards placed on each table with a cowboy boot filled with wildflower. The wedding cake was topped with a Day of the Dead Bride and Groom.
With the Salt Lick BBQ & ribs for dinner- the couple supplied each table with a box of customized hand wipes!
The dress was a bride-modified find, as was the Grooms suit. She customized her dress with ribbons rhinestones and a favorite brooch that was her Great Aunts. He wore a gold western belt buckle with the inital S !
The Grooms Aunt performed the ceremony, friends read poems and as the couple recited their own vows.
Guests blew their water bird whistles and waved ribbon streamers as the couple exited to mariachi music by RUBEN BANDA and La Compania.
( John says " they KICK ASS. Everyone should hire them". )
A heartfelt toast from the Bride to her Mother who she said inspired her artistic career by telling her to GO MAKE SOMETHING when she was bored as a child!
The honeymoon was delayed while the bride went to work for the Santa Fe Opera thi summer but the groom said when asked "what made your wedding rock n roll"?
He replied " It's the only way. What were we gonna do, NOT Rock? It was our wedding for crying out loud"!
Venue (ceremony and reception) - THURMANS MANSION
Flowers, cakes, favors, brides dress, brides shoes, brides accessories, brides jewellery, grooms outfits, bridesmaid dresses, hair/make up were all DIY.
